You ever been in a situation where everything doesn’t seem right and you can’t really trust anyone? This is the set up for The Two Faces Of January starring Viggo Mortensen who you certainly shouldn’t trust, watch UK trailer.
The Two Faces Of January is based on Patricia Highsmith novel, set in 1960’s a con man Chester MacFarland (Mortensen) and his younger wife (Kirsten Dunst) who have fled to Athens when Chester’s past catches up with him. Whilst the pair where sightseeing they find assistance in the shape of a local tour guide (& scam artist) Rydal (Oscar Issac) who decides to help them get away from the law however as Rydal isn’t the most trustworthy of people both his and Chester’s fate become intertwined , making things even more complicated.
This film marks the directorial debut for Hossein Amini who is known for writing the neo-nior classic Drive and looks to have adapted the visual style of that film into this one. There is an element of Talented Mr Ripley here too making this film an taut, intense intriguing film, envious, obsessive characters all round solid film. After Inside Llewellyn Davies Oscar Isaac should hopefully get more recognition and playing alongside Viggo Mortensen who is trustworthy as ever a actor who rarely picks bad projects, it should come.
The Two Faces Of January will be released on 16th May in UK , no word on a U.S.A release date just yet.
