Top 10 Greg Kinnear Films (Stuck In Love)

stuck-in-love-Greg-Kinnear

In Stuck in Love, Greg Kinnear plays Bill Borgens, a novelist still struggling to overcome the divorce of his wife Erica (Jennifer Connelly). A standout film, Kinnear proves that roles in charming indie films such as this is where he is best deployed. Here we take a look back at Greg Kinnear’s most memorable roles

As Good as It Gets (1997)
The one everybody remembers Kinnear for is James L. Brooks’ Oscar-winning As Good as It Gets, in which he plays Simon Bishop, a homosexual artist who lives next door to Jack Nicholson’s misanthropic obsessive-compulsive-disorder novelist Melvin Udall. Greg earned an Oscar nomination for his role, but lost out to Robin William’s performance in Good Will Hunting.

You’ve Got Mail (1998)
It’s difficult to remember Greg Kinnear’s performance in You’ve Got Mail due to the memorable central performances from both Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks; he stars as Frank Navasky, a left-wing newspaper writer for the New York Observer who always searches for an excuse to root for the underdog. Old-fashioned in his love of using a typewriter, his girlfriend Kathleen (Ryan) is swinging more towards her computer – forcing the plot into action.

We Were Soldiers (2001)
Greg Kinnear stars in this ensemble alongside a top cast comprised of Mel Gibson, Keri Russell and Barry Pepper; playing Major Bruce “Snakeshit” Crandall, We Were Soldiers tells the story of the first stage of the Vietnam War – and proves Kinnear can hold his own in films with serious subject matters devoid of comedic angles.

The Matador (2005)
Here, Kinnear stars as tired businessman Danny Wright who begins an awkward friendship with Pierce Brosnan’s equally as jaded assassin Julian during a chance encounter at a bar in Mexico City. This dark comedy, written and directed by Richard Shephard, was critically acclaimed – with many hailing the central lead performances.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
This indie smash arrived in 2006 to huge acclaim for all members of the cast, which included Kinnear. He plays Richard Hoover who heads up the dysfunctional family who cross the country in a race against time to enter Abigail Breslin’s seven-year-old Olive into a beauty contest in California.

Ghost Town (2008)
Ricky Gervais’ big-screen debut saw Greg Kinnear take a supporting role; Gervais is a dentist who can see and converse with ghosts, whilst Kinnear plays the deceased husband of Leoni’s widow… The film begins with his death, and he sticks around as a ghostly spirit throughout – dead or alive, Kinnear remains an ever welcome presence!

Baby Mama (2008)
In this film, Kinnear stars alongside Amy Poehler and Tina Fey as Rob Ackerman, a cafe owner who starts a relationship with Tina Fey’s Kate Holbrook, amidst her decision to hire a surrogate (Amy Poehler). Wittily charming, Kinnear showcases his chops in yet another easygoing and immensely watchable dramedy.

The Kennedys (2011)
This Emmy-award winning television Miniseries chronicled the lives of the heavily scrutinized Kennedy family, from JFK’s younger days right through to his assassination in 1964. Greg Kinnear played the former President with just the right level of confidence, balancing his charisma, yet depicting his flaws and more dangerous side with success.
