Amongst the negativity finally the long delayed Carl Rincsh‘s Samurai epic 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves is taking positive strides towards to it’s release with the first first footage in the shape of a trailer.
Elements based on a historical story(Chūshingura) 47 Ronin is a story of a band of warriors banished, outcasted who are determined to seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master.
It’s hard to think this film was shot back in 2011 but looking back at Hollywood blockbuster history it now seems to be tradition for big films to be delayed, rescheduled several times,story, filming, budgeting problems and 47 Ronin has kept the tradition going. Whilst it boasts been based on a true story, the film does boast a mythical creature element as well as a big slice of and mysticism too, give the film an intriguing visual appeal. However it seems the outstanding problems are still there as we get an impression this film doesn’t know what it really wants to be (I’m getting a 300, Clash Of The Titans crossed with martial arts film feel), feels like a empty shell at times. This been one of the big boxing day flicks Universal will have to buck up their ideas with Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, Jack Ryan, American Hustle all fighting for the elusive Christmas no.1 slot (along with The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smuag, Anchorman 2). 47 Ronin will have a hard time convincing the public it deserves our love at the box office and the this trailer is just a victim of bad editing.
47 Ronin will be released in UK&Ireland on 26th December (25th USA).The film also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Ko Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano, Rinko Kikuchi.
Synopsis
Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.
