New Pacific Rim Featurette Explains The Jaeger Piloting

Eight Weeks time everyone will let loose their inner twelve year old as Guillermo Del Toro‘s Giant robots versus monsters smackdown Pacific Rim is unleashed. Now that we’ve had several glimpses of the robots, the Jaegers in a new featurette we actually delve into the robots and actually see how the humans pilot the robots explaining some of the concepts behind what they call ‘The Drift’.

Sometimes referred to  as the ‘Neural Handshake’  the Drift is when the two pilots consciousness, before “drifting” together. Despite all the computerised technology the idea of sharing old memories just don’t have secrets as they’ll come back to haunt you or even the other pilot understands empathically something you hide.

Guillermo Del Toro himself introduces this video and he has done his homework creating a new fascinating world which the cast seem to have got to grips of the mythology behind it all. Here’s hoping the logic will be appreciated by us all too, so watch this video carefully Earth might need you to pilot too!

starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Burn Gorman and Rinko Kikuchi is Pacific Rim is released in UK, Irish and U.S cinemas nationwide on 12th July 2013.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
