Irish actress Saoirse Ronan landed herself her first film role at the age of 12 – and shot to fame after her starring role in Atonement which later made her one of the youngest people to have an Oscar nomination. After that phenomenal success she has been inundated with exciting new films, and to celebrate the release of Byzantium later this month here we take a look at the young star’s best moments so far.

Atonement (2007)


Saoirse Ronan became one of the youngest stars to be nominated for an Oscar after her role in Joe Wright’s Atonement. Starring alongside Kiera Knightley and James McAvoy, Saoirse played a 13 year old who accuses her older sister’s lover of a crime he did not commit.

The Lovely Bones (2009)


Saoirse tells the story of a murdered 14 year old in suburban 1970’s Pennsylvania from her personal heaven in this adaptation of the wildly popular novel. This role elevated Saoirse’s fame and saw her gain a number of award nominations.

The Way Back (2010)


The Way Back is a remarkable adventure story of the escape of a small group of multi-national prisoners from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and their epic life affirming struggle. Saoirse plays a Polish Orphan who the prisoners meet on their journey.

Hanna (2011)


Saoirse plays Hanna in this action-adventure thriller. Hanna is a 16-year old who was raised by her father and taught how to be the perfect assassin. Hanna is sent on a mission across Europe, all the while being tracked by a ruthless intelligence agency.

Byzantium (2013)


In Neil Jordan’s upcoming film, Soairse plays Clara, one of two mysterious women who seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. The women befriend a man named Frank and tell him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood – as knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up with them with deathly consequences.
