As we approach the final days of the first month of 2013 all eyes will be focused on what’s ahead in February and it looks like scares are on the menu with the Guillermo Del Toro’s Mama and tonight we have the UK trailer.
Mama is the directorial feature debut for Andres Muschietti whose short film of the same name Mama is based on and under the advice of one of the masters of horror Del Toro Muschietti is in good hands. Mama comes perfect time for one of it’s stars Jessica Chastain who is now a Oscar nominated actress whose current film Zero Dark Thirty was released last week in the UK. With her current film running high at the moment this is only good news for Mama attracting more attention to the actress showcase her diversity of roles and see her minus her flowing red hair!
Mama also stars Game Of Thrones star Nicolas Coster-Waldau as Lucas with his girlfriend Annabel (Chastain) who has been searching for his missing nieces who disappeared into the woods after their parents where mysteriously killed. Amazingly the girls are found Lucas and Annabel attempt to introduce normal life to the girls once again it seems something evil has followed them an still wants to tuck the girls into to bed at night!
It seems to be tradition now for a actress who has starred in her first major lead role to follow that up with the traditional horror like Jennifer Lawrence did recently after The Hunger Games with The House At The End Of The Street. We’re really keen to see this as the short film Mama is based on is only about 3 minutes long which is testament to the quality of short films when the likes of Guillermo Del Toro can see the makings of a feature film. If you haven’t see the short film you can watch it here.
The film will also playing at the Glasgow Film Festival on 16th February so if your up for an early late night scare book your tickets here Mama also stars Isabelle Nelisse and Megan Charpenter and will be released in UK&Ireland from 22nd February.
Guillermo del Toro presents Mama, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.
Five years ago, sisters Victoria and Lilly vanished from their suburban neighbourhood without a trace. Since then, their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain), have been madly searching for them. But when, incredibly, the kids are found alive in a decrepit cabin, the couple wonders if the girls are the only guests they have welcomed into their home.
As Annabel tries to introduce the children to a normal life, she grows convinced of an evil presence in their house. Are the sisters experiencing traumatic stress, or is a ghost coming to visit them? How did the broken girls survive those years all alone? As she answers these disturbing questions, the new mother will find that the whispers she hears at bedtime are coming from the lips of a deadly presence.
