It’s been 2 years since the man who made the visual diarrhoea better known as The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan directed a film but next summer he returns with After Earth and the first trailer has arrived! If you’ve been the enjoying the recent spell of Post Apocalyptic Earth films like I Am Wall:E aka Oblivion starring Tom Cruise, even Star Trek Into Darkness After Earth should wet your appetite. Starring the Fresh Prince of Bellair and the Karate Kid better known as father & son duo Will Smith and Jaden Smith set 1000 years cataclysmic events force humanity’s escape from Earth to Nova Prime. Playing the father& son in the film the pair are heading home when their spaceship is damaged in a meteor storm forcing them to crash land on earth becoming a fight for survival.
They all say your past will come back to haunt you, in M.Night Shyamalan‘s case it’s a true statement after his last monstrosity then the embarrassing The Happening can cinephiles have faith in the director once more? You ask how can someone loose their mojo after creating a film like Sixth Sense to Mark Whalberg talking to fake plastic trees? After Earth visually looks great though there is a big Avatar feel to it but also a big Edgar Rice Burroughs feel to it to. After Earth is a survival film rather than a sci-fi film with Earth been in a prehistoric state but as this is earth 1000 years after a disaster it looks like it’s been reborn but dangerous place so there’s a possible Star Trek Search for Spock scenario here too.
So has daddy learned junior well? Can Jaden Smith pull what looks like a one man show? Will Shyamalan deliver something that visually appealing but also delivers in storyline too? Sony Pictures have given the director the pot of gold to make sure he does and on 7th June 2013 in UK, Ireland and USA will be judgement day.
There is also 2 other versions of the trailer online too, a French version coming in at 2:19 a American Version at 2:29 with UK version coming in at 2:33
