Disney have launched the first poster for Oz The Great And Powerful. 2013 we will once again be Somewhere Over The Rainbow with the film been a prequel to the classic 1939 fantasy which is still loved and adored by all generations. The fantasy will tell the story of Oscar Diggs a dubious small time circus magician who is transported to the land of Oz who is then drawn into the battle between three witches Theodora, Evanora and Glinda.
James Franco has the honour to play the eponymous wizard with the witches played by Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams with Zach Braff playing Diggs assistant along with the voice of the winged monkeys (yes they will be in it CGI style). The man behind the camera will be Sam Raimi who direct taking us over the rainbow instead of dragging us to hell (do check for buttons and over cursed objects!). As you’ll see from the poster all the iconic elements from the legendary film are here: the yellow brick road, Emerald City and even the Balloon transport Diggs to Oz which we know brings Dorothy back to Kanas.
With Comic Con only a few days away we can say this will be the start of Disney’s promotion for the film and kick off the other films we can look forward to in 2013 from Disney-Pixar. We Don’t have the exact UK release date for Oz The Great And Powerful, we do know it’s March 2013 possibly the same day as USA which is 8th March 2013. Below the poster you can also find the films official synopsis!
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well. When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well.
