The French Trailer For Pascal Laguier’s THE TALL MAN

In 2010 I found Pascal Laguier‘s  Martyrs by accident an accident I was glad to make as its one of my favourite horror films 4 years on the French director is making his follow up THE TALL MAN and a new international trailer has arrived online. The film stars Jessica Biel as Julia a nurse in a small mining town where the local children have been disappearing  which no one can seem to solve the mystery and instead blame it on the legend of The Tall Man. When Julia’s son disappears she’ll go to any lengths to find him as well as figure out the mystery behind the other abductions.

This is completely different kettle of fish from Martyrs, not the ‘torture porn’ of the film that given him his reputation this is more into your ‘Boogeyman’  territory, not as demented but still showing elements of darkness, but not really as unsettling. I’m just a little concerned that this film could ruin Laguier’s  reputation a little like how The Hitman with Xavier Gens (Frontiers) both masters of Torture Porn reputations destroyed by Hollywood. The film’s short run on the American festival circuit too isn’t pleasant reading though there is a sense of intensity in this and been a fan of the director I will check this one out.

The Tall Man (or The Secret as its called in France) doesn’t have a UK release date just yet but in USA it will be released August 31st and the film also stars  Jodelle Ferland, Stephen McHattie and William B. Davies

In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” Town nurse Julia Denning (Jessica Biel) seems skeptical…until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller from acclaimed director Pascal Laugier (“Martyrs”) called THE TALL MAN.
