“the finest f***ing monsters ever committed to screen and…the greatest f***ing robots ever committed to screen.” that’s what Guillermo Del Toro when he talks about his next movie PACIFIC RIM,epic Giant Robots versus Invading Giant monsters! It’s hard to believe this film will be the directors first directed film since 2008 Hellboy 2:Golden Army as the past few years he’s been in the limelight unfortunately for the wrong reasons his projects victims of studio budget cutbacks At The Mountains Of Madness and pulling out of the directors chair of The Hobbit thanks to lack of budget.
Last month we finally got the plot and tonight we have the film’s first image which has Idris Elba(Stacker Pentecost) who is suited up what we believe is a the uniform worn by the fighter pilots controlling Giant robots. Now the first image is out the next thing fans will be craving for is footage which is to arrive soon as the first footage is expected to be shown at next months Comic Con in Sand Diego, if it does come we’ll do our best to bring it to you when it arrives online! The image above is a scan from the new edition of Total Film and Pacific Rim is going to be a film of epic scale, here’s a quote on what Del Tore said about the scale and Production…
When we’re talking about the physicality of the fight, we ended up building several blocks of Hong Kong. And literally demolished them. We built a building and then we took down the buildings.
We built command centres of the robots that were the size of the house. We started them on hydraulic rigs that shoot and elevated them and moved them round so you could really get a sense of the physical nature driving a robot like this.
It’s all exciting stuff and we’re not even half way through this summer and we already know summer 2013 is going to be a monster one when PACIFIC RIM is released July 12th, 2013!
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
