When Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close received a few Oscar nominations it did surprise a few people but here at The Peoples Movies we weren’t surprised and from the reaction of the audience they were not surprised either. Daldry’s record in awards especially when it comes to winning awards he is magnetic with Billy Elliot and The Reader proving he has what it takes to win the ultimate prize and his latest film certainly the credentials.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is based on the novel of the same name, the film focuses on a family devastated by the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centre. Oskar (Thomas Horn) who father is killed in the atrocity finds a key among his father’s belongings and believes its a message from him and starts to search New York City to find the mysterious lock the key is for but brings him a better understanding of the world behind him.
Warner Bros have sent us 2 video interviews one with Sandra Bullock who plays Oskar’s mother Linda with the other interview with Thomas Horn who plays Oskar in his debut performance both talk candidly about the film, Tom Hanks plays Thomas Oskar’s father.Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close will surprise many people it did surprise Cleaver who reviewed the film for The Peoples Movies (Read Cleaver’s review here) but with a Oscar winning/nominated cast of Max Von Sydow, Viola Davis, John Goodman, Jeffrey Wright, and James Gandolfini don’t be surprised this film becomes 3 in a row for Daldry.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close will be out in UK Friday 17th February.
