The news, rumours and gossip for Spike Lee’s upcoming remake/adaptation of the cult South Korean film Oldboy has certainly been heating up quick. It was only yesterday we told you about the possibility of Clive Owen teaming up with Lee again to play the villain role originally offered to Colin Firth and Twitch who have been bringing all the latest from this project have now learned the female lead is to be offered to Mia Wasikowska.

The young actress if she accepts will play Maria , a role that we believed was first offered to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actress Rooney Mara who quickly refused the part. It’s ironic that the film she will move from to play in this film Stoker is the first English language for  Park Chan Wook the director of the original film! This won’t be the first ‘dark’ thriller that the young actress has attempted to appear in as she also went for the part of Lisbeth Salander the part Rooney Mara won.

At the tender age of 22 Mia Wasikowska has achieved a lot appearing with Tim Burton as Alice in Alice in Wonderland an adaptation which was dark for a family film, Oscar nominated The Kids Are Alright  and more recently in Gus Van Sant’s Restless. But many see her break through role as the disturbed  Sophie  in tv drama In Treatment a performance that caught the eye of Hollywood which could land her this role. She is an talented young  actress who has proven her worth and like any actor especially in the important years of their career they want to prove there diversity  and try her hand at more challenging roles which this film will provide.

If she takes the role she will star next Josh Brolin who will play the part of a man who is kidnapped, then imprisoned in a motel like prison for 15 years. Throughout his time captured he is given no reason why or who held him against his will and when he is freed he task is to find out and why he was kidnapped.
