Ben Kingsley In Talks To Star In Enders Game?

The past few years there’s been plenty of film projects that find themselves going stagnant in development hell, some only getting as far as a idea, others developing so far then stopping at a brickwall. One of those projects is Gavin Hood’s ENDERS GAME based on the novels of Orson Scott Card which has finally taken the first steps out of that hell bringing Hood on board to direct, more recently Hugo’s Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford has been quoted to be a possibility, Hailee Steinfeld the young star of the Coen Brother’s True Grit remake could play the lead female role. THR are now reporting another actor is in talks to join the cast and if the rumours are true it means Asa Butterfield will be re-uniting with Hugo star Sir Ben Kingsley.

Enders Game is based on a story set in the future on a earth which insect like creatures come to battle, Ender Wiggins (Butterfield) is an young boy who is a brilliant gamer adapt to great  military strategies through war games and the government creates these young genius to combat the invasion. It’s believed the role that Kingsley may play is of a character called Mazer Rackham “a legendary war hero believed to be dead”, it sounds like this war has been going on for many decades and Rackham could possibly be the original ‘gamer’ that the schools role model themselves on. There’s a little confusion that maybe Harrison Ford is also up for this part however it does seem he maybe more been aimed for the part of Colonel Hyrum Graff.

This project  will be the workings of OddLot Entertainment, K/O Paper Products and Summit Entertainment  with the aim for production to start around February time aiming for a March 2013 release date. I’ll be honest Ive never read the book, the world of Ender Game is new to me, but if the cast that’s been rumoured is true it does look an interesting film to watch progress, my only concern is the director Gavin Hood who was behind the fateful X-Men Origins:Wolverine film but like everyone I’ll give second chances to prove me wrong. If February is the targeted production start we can assume official cast announcements will be on the way very soon.
