I’ll be honest I was one of the very few people who thought Joe Cornish Attack The Block was ok not the perfect film some critics were calling it especially overseas critics, The American cinephiles loved it according to there critics. It was a short flick, if you blinked you missed been only 88 minutes long, I give them credit pairing up teen gang members up against aliens protecting their block against an all out attack. What The American’s love they want in film terms when they do the dreaded remake rears its ugly head and now it seems Attack The Block will be the latest on Hollywood’s chopping board of destruction.
News or really gossip is emerging that during an interview at New York Comic Con director Joe Cornish he was approached (no names on who approached him) to remake Attack The Block for A American audience and (or) a TV Spin off . The idea of a sequel, remake was first suggested at San Diego Comic Con however it was stressed that everything was in early stages, that everything was just talk with no concrete confirmation anything would be remade, but if plans did go ahead it maybe on the gangs leader Moses.
IFC broke the story first and this is what Cornish said :
“He keeps coming up with amazing ideas. He has this image of a bigger alien attack on London, as if the wave we saw in ‘Attack the Block’ was just the first wave and there’s another wave of bigger creatures. And he described to me this image of Moses leading a whole army of hood kids across the Thames, next to the houses of Parliament… No, his image was even better. He had an image of Moses on a police horse. You know the police in London who have those horses they use in riots — somehow Moses has got onto one of those horses. So he’s on a horse leading this army of South London kids across the river to take on this bigger wave of aliens. So yeah, it’s really fun to think of stuff like that and think of what we could do.“
I really love alien invasion films especially those television series from 1980’s like V with the human race joining together to defeat the enemy and when they thought they won the aliens come back stronger, so the idea maybe of a tv series or franchise would work maybe going into the gang in more depth or even the aliens. If it was a television series I could see it as a Channel 4/ E4 series compared to remaking it and if I remember rightly some American critics/fans complained that they couldn’t understand the south London accent, so to me personally there’s the old foreign film versus ‘I can’t be bothered listening to a regional accent or read subtitles’, though some remakes do work but what different apart from making it lower east side New York, Compton and replacing British actors with a American?
