Details Of Gareth Edwards “Robot Star Wars” Revealed

I’m actually ashamed to say I haven’t seen Gareth Edward’s Monsters yet despite how much I promoted the movie on this site and Cinehouse in such a positive manner. We can all agree Monsters pardon the punt was a Monster hit proving that you don’t always need to have a big budget to create an effective movie and smart Alien invasion movie. The movie has certainly opened the eyes of the bigwigs in Hollywood and now we see often big movies been connected with The Godzilla remake along with the expected Monsters sequel which Edwards will produce and now  /Film are telling us The British film maker has another  original idea up his sleeve.

His new project is been pitched as a ‘robot Star Wars’ with the story being described as “is about a young human child (probably around 5 years old) and a robot who travel across the galaxy in search of mankind’s origin in a world void of humanity and filled with robots.” . If this project gets the thumbs up it will be with a reported $35million budget with Russian director come producer Timur Berkmambetov producing, with the script also still in development stage.  The Playlist actually spoke to Edwards in a interview last autumn where he revealed some details of an untitled sci-fi film: “It’s a science fiction film, it’s way more ambitious than ‘Monsters,The tagline is very vague, it’s an epic human story set in a futuristic world without humanity.”

This does sound like a little bit like Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life rather than Star Wars though its believed the Star Wars connection will solely down to some action orientated scenes the movie may have. With 2012 creeping  closer, Godzilla is still down to be released next year and with this project already on the cards before this new project and if he can pull that movie off he shouldn’t have a problem getting his Robot Star Wars up and running shortly after.
