Never say the obivious especially these days in the movieworld when for so long the gossiper point fingers to a certain actor as in Viggo Mortensen for a certain part lets say General Zod, with no solid evidence to really say it will happen, it never does! Zack Snyder & Warner Bros laid rest to who will play the villian in Snyder’s Superman Reboot the wait is now over, all kneel for General Zod who will be played by Michael Shannon! With all guns pointing to a younger (but not young as in Twilight cast age) cast it was getting obivious Mortensen wasn’t going to be the man especially last month rumours spreading Shannon was in line for a villian’s role we now know that to be true.

Here at The Peoples Movies Hq we’re just glad the new movie wasn’t taking the cheap route by going Lex Luthor as the villian, yes it is a villian seen already in the original movies but its one of Superman’s old foes we dont get to see much about. As we know Zod comes from the same planet as Superman, Krypton and is the commander of the Krypton Armed Forces who we saw in Superman 1 in 1978 briefly and was the main villian in Superman 2 in 1980.
Michael Shannon is a fantastic ‘Alternative’ choice for Zod he can protray the power hungry god like inhuman type character who is a meglomanaic which Shannon can do excell at. His Oscar nominated performance as the mentally troubled man in Revolutionary Road was one of the performances that help get him the role and now we know Zod is the villian will we have Ursla joining the general with Rosamund Pike,Diane Kruger and Alice Eve names rumoured to play the part.
Michael Shannon now joins the cast which is slowly taking shape with Henry Cavil playing the Man Of Steel, Amy Adams as Lois Lane with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane playing Superman’s Earth parent Jonathan & Martha Kent. Zack Snyder will direct the movie with Deborah Snyder, Christopher Nolan,Thomas Tull, and Lloyd Phillips are producing with David S Goyer writing the script for a movie set for December 2012 release.

BURBANK, CA, April 10, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.”
Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Shannon was most recently seen in the award-winning HBO drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” from executive producer Martin Scorsese. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics’, “Take Shelter,” from director/writer Jeff Nichols.
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
