Whilst at the launch of The Factory Movie Lovers” at the Pompidou centre in Paris Filmmaker Michael Gondry told reporters of his upcoming project which is to be Phillip K Dick’s UBIK.

Ubik is regarded as one of the top 100 english language books  of all time by Time magazine which tells the story of a man who works for a anti-psi security firm which blocks out telepathic spying  but things go a bit pear shaped when they are hired to do a job on the moon.If you’ve read alot of Dick’s books its a bit tricky trying to condense his story’s synopsis into a few lines, here’s a bigger synopsis:

Plot Summary:
Glen Runciter is dead. Or is everybody else? Someone died in an explosion orchestrated by Runciter’s business competitors. And, indeed, it’s the kingly Runciter whose funeral is scheduled in Des Moines. But in the meantime, his mourning employees are receiving bewildering — and sometimes scatological — messages from their boss. And the world around them is warping in ways that suggest that their own time is running out. Or already has.

Philip K. Dick’s searing metaphysical comedy of death and salvation (the latter available in a convenient aerosol spray) is tour de force of paranoiac menace and unfettered slapstick, in which the departed give business advice, shop for their next incarnation, and run the continual risk of dying yet again. source Phillip K Dick’s Website

This will be the second attempt at adapting the book to film as Celluloid Dreams tried back in 2008 for a 2009 release but nothing appeared on screen and we dont know if the rights have been passed on our the French filmmaker is writingfor himself or for a studio.

Along with Isaac Isaamov Phillip K Dick is one of the most popular science fiction writers a good number of his books have all ended up movies at one time, just look at the list: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Screamers, Minority Report, Paycheck , A Scanner Darkly and March 4th The Adjustment Bureau.

Before he can properly start on UBIK, he does have the small matter of The We And Iwhich he is hoping to start this summerfor a 2012 release date.
