UK Trailer for Anthony Hopkins Exorcism thriller THE RITE

Warner Bros have sent me the UK Trailer for Mikael Håfström’s THE RITE Starring Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins as  a unorthodox priest, Father Lucas who tries to teach skeptical young student preist Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue his debut feature) the darkside of there faith in the Vatican. After the relative sucess of The Last Exorcism simlilar themed movies have been popping up all around the world with Hafstrom’s Catholicism Vs The Devil heading back to the old school exorcist style battles compared to low budget Last exorcism conservative Deep South protestant religious beliefs.

After The Wolfman sadly I dont think I can watch Hopkin’s and watch a movie with a serious thought hopefully he’s just like all good actors going through a blimp of choosing bad movies and hopefully the Rite will be his first step back to good times we remember Sir Anthony for. Director Hafstrom is no stranger to supernatural movies as he made the Stephen King movie 1408 but Im curious to know when his other and still to be released Shanghai (already been released in China)starring John Cusack, Ken Watanabe & Chow Yun Fat will actually see a cinematic release.

The Rite also co-stars Alice Braga (Predators), Ciaran Hinds (munichHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2), Toby Jones (Frost/Nixon) and Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) with the movie been released in UK on February 25th and in the USA on January 28th, 2011.

Inspired by true events, “The Rite” follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican.  While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith.

Directed by Mikael Håfström (“1408”), “The Rite” is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.  The film stars Oscar® winner Anthony Hopkins (“Silence of the Lambs,” “Wolfman”), Colin O’Donoghue in his feature film debut, Alice Braga (“Predators”), Ciarán Hinds  (HBO’s “Rome,” upcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” films), Toby Jones (“Frost/Nixon,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”) and Rutger Hauer (“Batman Begins,” “Blade Runner”).
