Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have announced that the third film in the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise will be titled ‘How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’, before offering a sneak peak of the film at this years Annecy Festival.
‘How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’ is the second sequel in what is regarded as one of the greatest animated trilogies of all time and will be released in Spring 2019 after previous delays.
The third film in the series will see Hiccup fulfil his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless’ discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup’s reign as chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind.
Dean DeBlois is returning as the series director with an all-star cast, including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Kit Harington, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Kristen Wiig and TJ Miller are all set to return alongside series newcomer F. Murray Abraham as the villainous Grimmel.
It will be interesting to see what direction they are taking this third (and apparently final) chapter in, and whether or not it will stick to the book’s ending. If it’s anything like the last film, we’ll be likely seeing another mature entry in the series.
