Steven Soderbergh Goes West In Netflix’s Godless Trailer

Many people will be glad Steven Soderbergh is no longer ‘retired’. Logan Lucky marked his return to the director’s chair, now he’s moving to the small screen with Godless. This time as the producer of Scott Frank‘s  (A Walk Among The Tombstones) epic seven-part western. Today Netflix has sent us the official trailer, saddle up and welcome to ‘No Mans Land’

If you’ve been waiting forever for an old-fashioned style Western Godless might just be that show to provide fulfilment. It’s dusty, grim-looking with imagery that’s very striking which I would expect from a western. Even though we do have a synopsis (see below), we still don’t have a clear indication what this series will be all about. However, this new teaser may be short (running times of 55 seconds) it does a good job explaining things be it the basics. Frank was the screenwriter behind the brilliant Logan which was inspired by the old western Shane and we may just have a great show on the cards!

Notorious criminal Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels) and his gang of outlaws are on a mission of revenge against Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), a son-like protégé who betrayed the brotherhood. While on the run, Roy seeks refuge with hardened widower Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery), an outcast herself, in a worn-down, isolated mining town of La Belle, NM — governed mainly by women. When word reaches La Belle that Griffin is headed their way, the town bands together to defend against the murderous gang in a lawless western frontier.

And previously announced ensemble cast includes Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie, The Walking Dead), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones, Love Actually), Jeremy Bobb (The Knick), Scoot McNairy (Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice), Sam Waterston (Law & Order) and Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy).

Godless arrives on Netflix globally on 22nd November including the UK and Ireland.
