Jason Bourne Goes Tiny Solve Overpopulation In Downsizing Trailer

Autumn has arrived which means the Oscar potentials start making their first moves in achieving that glory. Alexander Payne’s Downsizing is one of those movies and it has a unique answer to the world’s overpopulation problems…Shrink us all! Paramount Pictures has released the first UK trailer for the sci-fi comedy which sees Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig shrinks themselves in the name of humanity and wealth.Who needs Bill Gates or Ted Turner’s solutions when you can go tiny?

The movie marks Payne’s return to the big screen after four years away from the camera and a first foray into the sci-fi genre. It maybe first steps into a new genre for the director but his whimsical and observational stylings looks still to be in tact. Whilst it doesn’t seem centred in just certain characters there does look like things go deeper into humanity’s social and economic dilemmas.

The movie has already played Venice Film Festival to some strong, positive reviews. Many calling it ‘ambitious and sharp’. Big question is, will the movie win the same accolades or more like Payne’s last movie Nebraska?

Downsizing imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, every man Paul Safranek (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to get small and move to a new downsized community — a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.

Downsizing doesn’t have a confirmed UK or Irish cinema release date (possibly early 2018). The movie, however, will make its UK premiere on 13th October at BFI London Film Festival.

The movie also stars Christoph Waltz, Laura Dern, Jason Sudeikis, Hong Chau, Laura Dern and Neil Patrick Harris.
