Badass Women in Movies

Badass women in movies have been majorly popular in modern pop culture with more and more young girls choosing to embody the strong, independent characteristics that their favourite characters hold. In preparation for the latest film in the Alien franchise, we are taking a look back at some of the most kickass women in movies. Alien: Covenant is landing in cinemas this Friday.

Furiosa – Mad Max Fury Road

A far cry from your typical femme fatal. Charlize Theron’s Furiosa is fierce, brave, intelligent and powerful, embodying everything you need to become a badass women. She is not held back from her disability of losing part of her left arm, choosing to fight with or without the prosthetic and being equally badass regardless. She has brains, beauty and badass written all over her.

The Bride – Kill Bill

On a one woman path to revenge nothing can stop her, until she has killed everyone that has ever done her wrong. Skilled in not only hand to hand combat, she also has some badass skills in knife and samurai combat making her one of the most hard – core and memorable females in film history.

Black Widow – Iron Man 2

The spy that audiences fell in love with. She has a sharp shot, light on her feet and is not afraid of some hand to hand combat. Her combat skills are matched with her strategy and talent for hacking computers which makes her one of the most badass woman on our screens at the moment. She made her first appearance in Iron Man 2 before kicking more ass in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and eventually earning her place as an Avenger.

Sarah Connor – Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Sarah is strong to say the least, just look at her arms. She is daring, dauntless and determined to fight against the future. Her skills are demonstrated throughout the film but shine when she breaks out of the hospital, earning her a place on this badass list.

Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games

A role model for generations to come Katniss Everdeen is the face of the rebellion in Panem. Her story starts when she showcases her heroism in order to save her sister from competing in the annual hunger games. She had to be brave to do that as competing means almost certain death, her fight for survival is made to look easy by her legendary skills with a bow and arrow and quick witted plans to survive. Outspoken and a far cry from ordinary Katniss Everdeen is one of the most rebel protagonists to ever grace our screens.

Wonder Woman – Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

Saving Batman from almost certain death earns Wonder Woman a place on the list. She is a trained warrior – Gal Gadot herself has military training – and takes the lead turning Batman and Superman into sidekicks rather than the leads of their own film. Her skills with a sword and lasso are legendary, as is her bravery which makes her a fierce female to keep an eye on.

Mulan – Mulan

Mulan has rebel written all over her. She disobeys her family in order to protect her father from fighting in the impending war from The Huns. She has to pretend to be a man throughout all of her training and is not disheartened when she is told to go home, instead proving to her commander that she is more than capable to fight and single handedly defeats the Huns, saving China by herself.

Ripley – Alien

Saving the best till last, Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley is arguably the most kickass woman on this entire list. Defeating the xenomorph by shooting a harpoon at it whilst it is being sucked out into space is just the beginning of her incredibly personality, characterization and skill.
