The ‘Unholy Alliance’ Explored In New Black Mass Featurette

Black Mass -Johnny-Depp

Truth is always stranger than fiction and in Scott Cooper‘s Black Mass  could mark the back to form for Johnny Depp as notorious career criminal James ‘Whitey’ Bulger. In 2 days the world premiere will take place in Venice, tonight we get a look at that ‘Unholy Alliance in featurette

How the critics and cinephiles of the world pray together that we maybe unison is praising rather than criticizing the fallen actor.Black Mass is looking his strongest attempt to prove he’s not an washed has been, just a great actor who took a few wrong turns. An alliance fans and critics have been calling out for a very long time!

In Black Mass we go back to 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster Jimmy Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI in order to eliminate their common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement while consolidating his power and becoming one of the most ruthless and dangerous gangsters in Boston history.

This one does have all the markings to be one of the best films of 2015 hence its Festival previews (11 days Toronto, October London). Without cursing the film by over praising, it certainly looks like it has enough substance to be a solid movie and a return to form for Depp with a fantastic cast supporting him. I’ll be honest I didn’t know much about Whitey Bulger and this great 4 minute video does it’s best to tease us with the basics on the origins and terrifying prowse of Depp’s character. It’s been a very long time since I’ve said I’m looking forward to a Johnny Depp film!

Black Mass will  make it’s UK premier at London Film Festival on 11th October before arrive in UK&Ireland 27th November cinematically . The film co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Rory Cochrane, Jesse Plemons, Peter Sarsgaard and Kevin Bacon.
