One of the breakout films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival arrives in UK next month today we get a look at the UK trailer of Dope! With the likes of Pharrell Williams as executive Producer along with the film’s soundtrack Dope might make us all ‘happy’!

In Dope, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighbourhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

Those old enough to remember 1990s will adore the throwback to the decade with plenty of iconography on show with the first shot we see one of the character put a cassette into a walkman. Yes kids before CD and well before MP3 this is how we did things before smart phones! Ironically much of the film is very fresh as fashion trends of this decade are popular today with same age as the film’s main characters. This film is purely coming of age, a film with plenty of nostalgia, fun and you get a good sense of the film’s story in this trailer too. This maybe been seen as an all out indie film but it has enough feel and laughter in it even the hardcore mainstream film fans might break into a smile.

Dope will arrive in UK&Irish cinemas from 4th September directed by Rick Famuyiwa with Fruitvale Station producers behind this one Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi. The film stars Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Rocky.
