Is Jamie Foxx To Play The Amazing Spiderman 2 Villian Electro?

Things are starting to really move for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spiderman 2. The past few weeks we learned Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone will return to reprise their roles with The Descendants star Shailene Woodley joining as Mary Jane Watson but as a minor role. Rumours have also been rife that the film will be Electro and it looks like Sony pictures want that villain with Oscar Winner Jamie Foxx to play that role.

According to Variety they state the Django Unchained star is in early talks with Sony to play the character. For those who stayed for the post credits sequence during the The Amazing Spiderman film featured a shadowy mysterious figure talking to Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) in his Jail cell. Electro  also asks does Peter Parker know the real truth about his parents before he disappears lightening bolts, so who is Electro?

Electro was originally an electrical engineer named Maxwell Dillon who first appeared in Amazing Spiderman #6 1964 (2 years after Spiderman himself first appeared) who was struck by lightening. Due to the accident his body became a electrical capacitor, things where weak at first but eventually with steal equipment he became more powerful. His powers grew  and over time he can do some awesome things from firing electric bolts, electrocute by simply touching them, create electrical storms, ionize metal, stop Spiderman’s crawling abilities. Electro does have one weak spot…water. Electro also is one of the founding members of Sinister Six a super villainous group which has Dr.Octopus, Vulture, Kraven The Hunter, Mysterio and Sandman.

Since his Oscar win with Ray in 2004,Jamie Foxx has been appearing in various action and comedy films which can only be described as box office or critical flops(Miami Vice, Soloist, Law Abiding Citizen and Valentine’s Day ) so The Amazing Spiderman job wil put the actor back into the Hollywood  A-lister mix. However if Tarantino’s Django Unchained coming this January (USA December) might do that job for him anyway.

It now sounds like Marc Webb is assembling another fantastic cast and Foxx looks will be a fantastic and will be interesting to see how he copes with a role he’s never done before, superhero. Foxx even joke today that he dressed as Electro for Halloween on Twitter, Variety report doesn’t mention any other villain so with the actors tweet this news looks viable, don’t surprise if another villain does appear in a minor role  possibly as the connection for film 3.

As ever nothing is 100% confirmed and even if talks did are still taking place it doesn’t mean the actor will accept, but whoever it is The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will begin next year in anticipation of the film’s May 2nd, 2014 release date.
