Arnold Schwarzenegger knows he’s old but that doesn’t stop him stepping back into the genre he made his name in, action to show the young whipper snappers how it’s done, He’s back and we have first trailer for The Last Stand. Perfect timing to release Arnie’s long awaited Lead role the day The Expendables 2 get’s its national release (USA Friday) and them bones might need a extra dosage of cod liver oil it does look like a bit of the old magic might just return for him before he finally has to call it a day on action. Schwarzenegger is playing an ageing Sheriff of a town on the Mexican Border which is the last hope to prevent a drug cartel leader fleeing to Mexico after escaping from a local courthouse.
I know I’m not alone on this, it’s great seeing Austrian’s most famous soon to be pensioner show off the old tricks but what will be attracting alot of folks is who is directing the film, Korean director Kim Jee-Woon. He might not be a name many in the West may know however you may know his demented film I Saw The Devil, the hope is he’ll bring an extra edge to Arnie’s flick or will he suffer the fate many Asian film makers have suffered when they made their first English language film in Hollywood. It looks silly fun, Arnie is at home and if you give him a ooze 9 mm gun hasta la vista baby badguys hell will break lose! Johnny Knoxville looks like he’s been sniffing something illegal as he looks nuts!
The Last Stand will arrive in UK&Ireland 25th January 2013, one week after the U.S release. The film also stars Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega, Rodrigo Santoro, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare, Genesis Rodriguez and Zach Gilford
After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. Cortez’ path: straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.
