Viggo Mortensen To Be Offered Lead In Neill Marshall’s The Last Voyage of The Demeter?

The vampire mythology has been rarely been off our screens more recently it’s never been off television with True Blood been most recent.Last week with the release of Abraham Lincon Vampire Hunter it may not be critic favourite however the entertainment value has been appreciated showing that vampires are still popular but we haven’t haven’t had a literary based film for a long while.That film will be coming via the legendary vampire himself (or a version of the myth)Dracula , The Last Voyage of The Demeter and it seems the film may have found its lead, Viggo Mortensen.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Mortensen has been offered a lead role (not Dracula though) possibly the role of Henry Clemens though nothing is been ruled out yet on Dracula part itself. The Last Voyage of The Demeter  is based on the section of Bram Stoker‘s classic novel which is based on the Russian ship Demeter in which Dracula has a bloody feast onboard with the ships crew on the way to England . It sounds an intriguing storyline however you do see the similarities towards a certain Alien film with the crew suffering to the hands of an unwelcomed guest.

This project has been on the go for a very long time about 10 years which has seen David Slade connected but last month it was announced Neill Marshall will direct which should make it more appealing for actors. Viggo Mortensen is an actor who is picky on what films he chooses and looking at his scheduling (early next year proposed Eastern Promises sequel) he could easily say no but if he does accept we know he will give a fantastic performance even if the film is not a success. Ben Kingsley, Noomi Rapace are two names that have been connected to this film for a longtime the report states Kingsley is still connected to play the ships captain though looking at his endless list of upcoming projects (including Iron Man 3 which is filming) you wonder if he can still star in this. Rapace has been targeted with the part of Ann Billington though like Kingsley with a certain sci-fi project follow up film and other projects may scupper her chances too.

Lowell Cauffiel is the latest writer to present a draft for the film suggests this project isn’t dead just yet but if they can get Mortensen’s name on the cast list it should give the film the boost it really needs.
