Critically acclaimed and original Swedish classic, The Girl with Dragon Tattoo has stormed through the 1 million mark for the total number of DVD sales.
An upsurge in sales in recent months shows that fans are returning to the successful Swedish version directed by Niels Arden Oplev, released in 2010 on DVD and Blu-ray by Momentum Pictures. The classic film was a box office hit first time round and has led to a further remake staring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.
Kristin Ryan, from Momentum Pictures says: ‘It’s great to see that there’s such a massive appetite for the original film. Sales of 1 million the week before the DVD release of the remake is nothing short of fantastic.’
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo catapulted Noomi Rapace into the limelight and has helped launch her successful film career. Noomi has since gone onto appear in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and is due to star in Prometheus released later this year.
The film is based on the books by Stieg Larsson, which have now sold more than 31 million copies worldwide and is one of the most successful box office and DVD franchises ever.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is available on DVD and Blu-ray now.
