“Your Nicked!” UK Trailer For THE SWEENEY Starring Ray Winstone, Ben Drew

Though I was born (cough cough) 1975 I was too young to remember Cult TV Crime drama The Sweeney though I can slightly remember the repeats in the early 1980’s. It was meant to be UK’s answer to The Streets of San Francisco (Michael Douglas), my true memories of British dramas is The Professionals which is subject a feature film too however It’s THE SWEENEY as tonight we have the UK Trailer!

Ray Winstone , Ben Drew (better known as Plan B) head the line up which also stars Haley Atwell,(Captain America), Damien Lewis (Homeland), Steven Mackintosh (Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans) and Paul Anderson (The Firm). Set in present day London, the film follows  Flying Squad detectives Jack Regan (Winstone), (George Carter (original played by and their team(characters where originally played John Thaw and Dennis Waterman).

Don’t get me wrong the the original tv series was good in the day, but there seems to be that tendency these days in film if it’s not a remake, re boot it now seems to be a nostalgia trip down memory lane for many directors. They don’t seem to think will the film transfer ok to the big screen, was the series actually a hit outside it’s native country (Dark Shadows is a perfect example), most of all does it really merit a adaptation? We’ll find out when The Sweeney arrives in UK&Irish  cinemas September 20th….YOUR NICKED!

*Update 4 April – A big thanks to eOne UK who have sent us our own version of the trailer*
