Orgies have been a part of our culture since the Romans tugged off their togas after a huge feast; captured in film over a range of genres from the sensual Perfume: The Story of a Murderer to musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Some clips not suitable for minors or for viewing at work!

1. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
Ben Whishaw stars as the murderer Grenouille with a superhuman sense of smell who is obsessed with capturing his first victim’s scent. Under the tutelage of a perfume-maker (Dustin Hoffman), he learns the art of the 13 scents which prompts him to go on a killing spree to capture them all. The culmination of his work is a massive orgy involving the whole town after he douses himself in his perfume. A visually stunning film, the orgy scene is not only erotic but captures the feelings and passions Grenouille’s perfumes inspires in its participants.

2. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Stanley Kubrick’s last film which stars Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise has perhaps some of the most iconic sex scenes in movie history. Dr Bill Hartford (Tom Cruise) is stunned when his wife (Nicole Kidman) admits to having sexual fantasies about a man she met. Intrigued Bill then embarks on a night-long adventure, during which he infiltrates a massive masked orgy of an underground cult.
The film is noted for its use of Venetian masks at the orgy in Somerton Mansion, reflecting the masks that everyone wears in society. With the luxurious surroundings, and beautiful, masked and naked people draped over every available surface; Eyes Wide Shut delivers one of the best orgy scenes in film.

3. Cat Run (2011)
The Andorran hooker and single mother Catalina “Cat” Rona is hired to participate in an orgy in Montenegro with other prostitutes and powerful men including the American Senator. On entering the grand, gated enclosure which in some ways resembles The White House, she whispers to her fellow escort that she has a ‘bad feeling’ about what they are about to do. As the door swings open, a sea of flesh crowds the screen in the form of the writhing and contorting bodies of young beautiful European girls. This is the ultimate orgy scene, closely followed by a scene of intense violence when Cat’s instincts turn out to be correct as a terrible crime is committed.

4. Embrace of the Vampire (1995)
An 18-year-old college freshman Charlotte (Alyssa Milano) is seduced in her dreams by a handsome vampire (Martin Kemp) who introduces her to a dark world of carnal desires. Trying to find the light between good and evil, Charlotte is given a choice to stay with her life as she knows it or enjoy the eroticism of the vampire world.
This was the film that helped Alyssa Milano shed her good girl image with the climatic orgy scene with the vampire of her dreams, her boyfriend and a lesbian vampire.

5. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
A newly engaged couple, Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) incur a breakdown in an isolated area and must pay a call to the bizarre residence of transvestite, Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The weird and wonderful residence hosts an array of bizarreness including a large group of Transylvanians dancing to the ‘Time Warp’, Dr. Frank-N-Furter building his own man and a whole host of participation for the audience to enjoy.
So, it should come as no surprise that Sharman didn’t go down the missionary style, boy-girl, in-the-bed route for his sex scene, and instead took his kinky cast into a swimming pool for a wet and wild orgy.

6. Caligula (1979)
The rise and fall of the notorious Roman Emperor Caligula, showing the violent methods that he employs to gain the throne, and the subsequent insanity of his reign – he gives his horse political office and humiliates and executes anyone who even slightly displeases him. Under the direction of Penthouse magazine’s Bob Guccione, Caligula’s already controversial R rated version went way beyond X, with a long, raunchy laundry list that included an orgy with over 50 naked women and several lesbian trysts.

7. The Idiots (1998)
A group of intelligent young people decide to react to society’s cult of an aimless, non-creative and non-responsible form of intelligence by living together in a community of “idiots”. Their main activity becomes going out into the world of “normal” people and pretending to be mentally retarded. They take advantage of this situation to create anarchy everywhere they go and try by every possible means to make people annoyed, disturbed, miserable, ridiculous, angered, and shocked. The films start as they recruit a new lost soul and introduced her to their megalomaniac
One of the members’ birthday party, whose birthday wish is “a gang-bang” (as explicitly spelled out in subtitles). The result is a playful and somehow sentimental orgy.

8. Shortbus (2006)

10. 9 ½ weeks (1986)
