2012 BAFTA’s Nominations Announced, The Artist, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Get most Nominations

The Award’s season has certainly started to move the past couple of days with the recent nominations for various upcoming awards, Sunday’s Golden Globes and today it was the turn of the British. This morning  British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the shortlist of nominations for 2012 BAFTA’s.

As for any surprises you could say there wasn’t any as 2011 was a fantastic, strong year for British film’s, it was essentially down to how many will each of the expected to in the running for. The Artist not a British film but a fantastic film is up for 12 awards, which was a film I was skeptical about until I watched it, its a feel good flick, the superb Tinker, Tailor Soldier Spy is next  with a 11 nomination. Hugo has nine nominations, My Week with Marilyn has six nominations and The Help and War Horse are each nominated five times.

As for other nominations Iranian film A Separation which won best foreign at The Golden Globes could it win again at the Bafta’s then 2 weeks later at the Oscar’s? Meryl Streep is up for best actress for The Iron Lady but will the British Academy be just as supportive or will Bérénice Bejo or Tilda Swinton steal  the flame? In the boy’s category will Gary Oldman or will it be Michael Fassbender for Shame which virtually swept the British independent Film awards?

The Orange British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday 12 February at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Stephen Fry will present this year’s ceremony which will be screened live on BBC One , with Edith Bowman presenting the red carpet build up before it on BBC3. Here’s the full list of nominations….
