Franchises and Spy’s mix successfully well, we’ve had James Bond, more recently Jason Bourne and now after recent success along with the amazing critical success at Venice Film Festival will Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy be the latest spy thriller to become a franchise?

Not spoiling it for any of no uk/irish cinephiles Tinker Tailor Soldier Soldier Spy  isn’t your typical spy thriller as in all guns blazing like the previous franchises mention, its more slow placed retro style fun (visually as well), It should be in the running for the Oscars. According to The Guardian studio Canal have been apparently dropping hints they want to make a franchise with George Smiley (Gary Oldman) been the main focus of the films. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is based around the 1979 BBC Drama of The same name with the follow up Smiley’s people also a bbc drama from 1982 , there is another book from the John Le Carre Honourable Schoolboy which according to Oldman himself told Empire those two maybe combined to make next film, here’s what he told the Guardian:

“I loved playing George and there are of course films to be made of John Le Carré’s other books featuring George, with Smiley’s People and The Honourable Schoolboy being the obvious ones. But I would insist on quite a few factors, such as I would really want Tomas Alfredson to direct it again.”

The Guardian further reports we may not have to wait long to find out if the gossip is true as next week in Paris Studio Canal are to make an announcement  and if this  happens it will be news that will be welcomed around the film world.
