Its hard to beleive Jamie Bell is the same person all those years ago played Billy Elliott, well he’s a grown boy now and taking grown up parts now and one of those is for the UK Thriller THE RETREAT.
The movie is about a married couple who escape to a remote island retreat to try resurrect their crumbling marriage when their peace is shattered when a soldier is washed up half dead on the shoreline of the island telling the couple the half of the world is dying because of a lethal virus. The married couple will be played by Thandie Newton (2012, Crash) and Cillian Murphy(28 Days Later, Inception) and the soldier part was originally to be played by my fellow Paisley man David Tennent (Dr.Who) but sadly he pulled out but its beleived that Jamie Bell will be the soldier but nothing has been confirmed as it what part he’ll play.
This whole concept of this story sounds very good like 28 days later mixed up with pyschological thriller and though 28 days later is regarded as one of my favourites I do sort of hope they stay away from the zombiesque story (though I still wont be disappointed if they didnt). Hopefully they’ll play towards the story that plays on your minds,maybe a little claustrophobic, very dark pyschological story as the virus (or of there is a virus) starts to creep closer to the island and hell breaks loose as people panic.
The Retreat is the debut directoral movie for Carl Tibbetts whom he co-wrote with Janice Hallett (also her debut script), with filming due to start in Wales in October.
